Jonathan leading a visionless govt –Osinbajo

Internet Punch illustration
Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has described the President Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government as “inadequate and visionless.”
The former Attorney-General of Lagos State said it was unfortunate that in spite of the fact that Nigerians had given “so much” to the present administration, they have got nothing in return for their sacrifices.
Osinbajo argued via his Twitter page that the APC presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, is a “strong character” that brings to the table a ray of hope for millions of Nigerians.
According to the Ogun State-born serving pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Nigerians should, as a matter of urgency, join the “common sense revolution” that would alter the status quo come February 2015.
“My fellow citizens, thank you all for your support. I am honoured to serve. Nigeria is great and her citizens give so much, yet get nothing in return from today’s inadequate and visionless leadership.
“When strong character like GMB (Buhari) is leading, it provides inspiration that change is possible and hope is not lost. Join the common sense revolution that GMB leads for a new Nigeria!
“To serve is an urgent task. One all must answer! Are you ready?” he asked in a series of messages on Twitter.
Also, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, argued that the 2015 presidential election afforded Nigerians the opportunity of choosing between integrity and corruption.
“APC vs PDP: The choice is between integrity-competence of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Osinbajo versus the incompetence and corruption of the shoeless ones,” the Kaduna APC governorship candidate said on Twitter.
But a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has disagreed with Osinbajo over his claims that the APC is poised towards taking the country to greater heights.
Describing Osinbajo as a “friend and brother,” Fani-Kayode said since he learnt of his nomination as Buhari’s running mate, he had been feeling a deep sense of pity for him.
In a Facebook post entitled, “A word for Prof. Yemi Osinbajo,” the former minister accused Osinbajo of “jumping into bed” with the enemies of democracy.
“I have known Yemi (Osinbajo) for a number of years and I must say that he is not only a very pleasant and civilised person with a warm and gentle disposition, but he is also a cerebral lawyer with a brilliant mind. I have immense respect for him.
“Yet, sadly, ever since I heard about his nomination and announcement as Buhari’s running mate I have felt nothing but sheer pity for him and a deep sense of pathos.
“A gifted servant of God who is a favoured spiritual son of Rev. Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, has jumped into bed with one of the most consistent enemies of democracy and Nigeria?
“This is very sad. The truth is that each and everyone of us, including my friend Yemi, will ultimately have to answer to God for the choices that we make and we must live with the consequences of those choices,” Fani-Kayode argued.
Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, has begun an aggressive online campaign to mobilise funds for the Jonathan 2015 re-election.
To this end, the party has launched a website, www.pdpfund.org, a fundraising platform to raise money online.
The PDP stated on the website that it would begin receiving what it described as voluntary “small money donations” that would provide ordinary Nigerians the opportunity of contributing to the President’s campaign.
“Support the Transformation Agenda. Donate to the PDP. We hold nothing against those who prefer to donate anonymously to the PDP Fund.
“Whether it is one naira or one million, we encourage PDP Fund donors to register their donation on www.pdpfund.org for necessary acknowledgement. Small money donations that can be made from the comfort of your home online and on the web or on mobile devices are coming soon.
“The PDP cannot be indebted to one man or a group of financiers, the many who said they would give to the PDP hold us by our promise to defend democracy,” the presidential fundraising said.

Onigbinde writes Keshi, asks him to quit Eagles

Stephen Keshi
A former coach of Nigeria, Adegboye Onigbinde, has disclosed that he has personally written to out-of-contract Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, to quietly seek a job elsewhere.
Onigbinde spoke with a Nigerian online news portal SuperSport.com.
Of late the calls have been deafening mostly from former Nigerian managers for the erstwhile Mali and Togo coach to leave the Eagles job after he failed to qualify the country for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in a dismal fashion. The latest calls for Keshi to quite have come from Christian Chukwu, Shaibu Amodu, and Kashimawo Laloko, among others.
Onigbinde said he would not like to be seen repeating himself on Keshi and Eagles’ job as he has specifically asked him then to politely thank the president for considering him worthy for recall and bow out honourably.
Onigbinde said, “On the very day the Presidency asked him to return to his job I personally sent him a text message to politely thank Mr President for the offer and bow out honourably and quietly, too.
“Keshi respectfully replied the text message thanking me and that was it as he went ahead with the two remaining 2015 AFCON qualifying matches against Congo and South Africa, I’m sure the rest is history.
“I volunteered the advice to Keshi because I understand that he won’t work with the Presidency but a different set of people as well as an entirely different environment.
“Now that others have picked up the calls I have the privilege to have said over two months ago I won’t like to engage in an exercise that will appear repetitious so that I won’t be accused of having interest in the whole matter.
“I’m not used to pressurising people to act in certain way, I’ve passed my view directly to him, I don’t need to pressurise him further on same thing.”
Onigbinde insisted that administration is the bane of the nation’s football development while he condemned the football house for half-heartedly implementation of his suggestions on match analysis.
“The major problem of football in the land is administration, I’ve written several papers on the need for a virile technical department which is key to football development.
“In other lands it’s called technical and development department because without development then everybody could as well go to sleep. I suggested that some people be trained as match analysts but the persons I saw on the list the NFF wants to train made me to laugh.
“The major mistakes we keep repeating are to assume that ex-footballers are automatic administrators, it’s quite wrong. Jose Mourinho and Arrigo Sacchi weren’t star players but you can’t rival their administrative and technical finesse.
“Being a star player doesn’t make you sound administrator or technical expert, it’s clearly a special calling,” Onigbinde said.

I get contradictory advice on national issues – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he always get contradictory advice from authorities when he wants to take decisions on major national issues.
Speaking at a christmas carol at the banquet hall of the presidential Villa, president Jonathan said only God knows why he is the president of the country.
According to the president, nobody can be in any position without the consent of God.

He said the God that gave him and others the opportunity to serve the country would see them through.
President Jonathan requested Nigerians to pray for God to give him the wisdom to do what is right in His sight.
“God knows why we are here. Nobody will place himself in any position without God. So God that gives all of us the opportunity will see us through.
For me, your servant today, I will continue to request for your prayers that God should give me the wisdom to do what is right in His sight”, he said.
He prayed that God give him the grace to do things with His fear, saying the country would survive if her leaders begin to do what is right in their own little way.
Jonathan disclosed that he often received contradictory advice and suggestions most times he wanted to take decisions on national issues.
He pledged that he would continue to do his best, especially to ensure that any opportunity given to him, he would use it to serve mankind.
“Because it is quite challenging for a leader. For every subject that you want to take a decision, you will have multiple suggestions, some contradictory, some to the left, some to the right, some to the centre. But you must take a decision.
“It is only God that can guide you to take the rightful decision that will not bring suffering to your people. We will try our best and we will continue to do our best. We promise that any opportunity given to us, we will use it to serve mankind.”

RCCG did not endorse Osibajo as Buhari’s running mate – Pastor Adeboye

Pastor EA Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has denied that the church endorsed the aspiration of one of its pastors, Prof. Yemi Osibajo, as the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Osibajo, who pastors the Olive branch of the RCCG on Banana Island, Lagos, on Wednesday emerged the running mate of General Muhammadu Buhari.
Adeboye, who was reacting to the subtle endorsement of Osibajo by a Twitter handle: @rccgworldwide, presumed to be the official Twitter handle of the RCCG, denounced the page.
He said in a Tweet credited to him on @rccghq: “RCCG is not affiliated nor represented by @rccgworldwide.
“The church’s official twitter page is @rccghq.”
In no fewer than four other tweets, the church equally faulted the endorsement of Osibajo by the creators of @rccgworldwide.
One of the tweets by the Pastors Seed reads: “RCCG has not celebrated anybody for any position in the forthcoming elections! The #Official RCCG handle is @rccghq. Do not be misled.”
Another reads: “We are a mission and we do not meddle into politics #RCCG #Official RCCG @RCCGworldwide is wrong.”
Another said: “#Official RCCG – @rccghq We do not denounce neither do we endorse candidacies for elections. We are not a political party.”
