Boundary dispute: Olubadan warns trespassers, says Oba river is Ibadan/Iwo boundary

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, has declared that Oba river is the boundary between Ibadan and Iwo town.

The paramount ruler made this declaration during an emergency meeting of Obas, Mogajis and Baales in the boundary communities between Ibadan and Iwo, which took place at the committee room of his palace in  Oke Aremo, Ibadan, on Friday.

Speaking through the Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Olubadan said the boundary between Ibadan in Oyo State and Iwo in Osun State had been Oba river from time immemorial.

“I seriously warn land expansionists, land grabbers and other trespassers to leave forcefully acquired Ibadan land without further delay in their own interests.

“The established fact that Ibadan people are lovers of peaceful co-existence and therefore accommodating should not be taken for granted or misinterpreted as cowardice. Yiyo ekun bi t’ojo ko,” Olubadan warned.

He admonished the Obas, Mogajis and Baales in the affected areas to protect their territorial integrity and ensure the ownership of land belonging to Ibadan is not compromised.

The monarch added that  trespassers should be prepared to face the music.

He enjoined traditional title holders in the boundary communities between Ibadan and Iwo to give maximum support to the palace and the Oyo State Government to ensure that the land forcefully and fraudulently taken is reclaimed.

At the meeting were  Ekarun Balogun of Ibadan land, Senator Sarafadeen Alli, Obas, Mogajis and Baales among others.

The meeting follows the persistent clashes between boundary communities in Ibadan and Iwo.

Stakeholders in Ibadan had on Tuesday declared that gold  mining was the cause of the Ibadan-Iwo boundary dispute.
