President Bola Tinubu reportedly met with suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, in London last week.
According to the africa report, two unnamed aides to the president confirmed the meeting took place.
Tinubu had on April 2 departed Abuja for Paris, France on a two-week working visit.
After his stay in Paris, presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu travelled to London before returning to Nigeria on Monday, April 21.
The meeting with Fubara was said to be at the instance of the suspended governor, who is reported to be keen on returning to office.
During their discussion, Fubara promised to make some compromises to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Aides privy to the discussions said negotiations are ongoing, noting that there is a possibility that Fubara’s suspension may be lifted before the end of the six-month emergency rule.
Tinubu had on March 18, declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing the protracted political crisis.
The president also suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
Tinubu appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice admiral, as the sole administrator of the state.
