Olubadan suspends two Mogajis over land grabbing

Olubadan of Ibadan land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, has suspended two Mogajis and stripped them of their traditional beads.

The affected Mogajis are Mogaji Kukula family, Kamorudeen Kolawole, in Oke Ofa Baba Isale, Ibadan North East Local Government, and Mogaji Ekerin Ajengbe family, Samsudeen Bello, in Isale Osi, Ibadan South West Local Government.

The suspension order, according to a statement on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to Olubadan, Chief Solomon Ayoade, takes immediate effect.

Ayoade said the Mogajis were suspended during the Olubadan Land Matters Committee meeting, held at old Olubadan’s Palace, Oja Oba, on Thursday.

Speaking through the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Oba Olakulehin said the suspension order would remain until the suspended Mogajis do the needful.

“Your suspension order is indefinite until you retrace your steps and do the needful.

“You have been told severally to desist from any act that can tarnish the reputation and image of the Olubadan and Ibadan land such as land grabbing, trespassing, forceful land taking, oppression of your family members and other residents in your domain,” the monarch reiterated.

The suspended Mogajis were directed to stop parading themselves as Olubadan traditional title holders till their cases are revisited and resolved.

Olubadan asked law enforcement agencies to apprehend any suspended traditional ruler parading himself as authentic chief.

Oba Olakulehin frowned at the non-chalant attitude of some Mogajis and Baales that ignored the invitation of the committee, noting that they are doing so at their own peril.

He said, henceforth, traditional title holders who failed to honour the commitee’s invitation will lose their titles, as their absence would be viewed as insubordination to a constituted authority.

At the meeting were the Otun Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja; Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Ashipa Olubad; Oba Dauda Abiodun Azeez, Ashipa Balogun; Oba Salaudeen Hamidu Ajibade, Ekerin Olubadan; Chief Isiaka Akinpelu, Special Adviser to Olubadan on Chieftaincy Matters; President, Association of Mogajis in Ibadan land, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori; Mogaji Adeleke Lukman, secretary to the committee; and Mogaji AbdulRasaq Akinola, the reporting officer to the committee, among others.
