A Nigerian innovator, Oluwatobi Oyinlola, has developed the world’s smallest global positioning system (GPS) tracking device prototype, measuring 22.93 x 11.92mm.
Oyinlola, a researcher and innovator at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, set a new Guinness World Record with his smallest GPS tracker, which is believed to have endless possibilities for use in various industries and spheres of life.
In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday night, President Bola Tinubu congratulated Oyinlola on the significant milestone.
“Oluwatobi’s invention is a testament to the brilliance and potential of our young people.
“His work on the world’s smallest GPS tracking device is not just a personal achievement but a national pride. It demonstrates that with the right support and encouragement, Nigerian youth can lead the world in innovation and technology,” he said.
The president emphasised the importance of nurturing such talent, adding that the young inventor’s success story should inspire the creation of an enabling environment for creativity to thrive.
“We must continue to invest in our youth, providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to turn their ideas into reality.
“Oluwatobi’s success story should inspire us all to foster an environment where creativity and innovation can flourish,” he added.
