Trump shares AI image depicting self as new Pope

United States President, Donald Trump, has shared an AI-generated image of himself dressed as Pope.

Trump posted the image on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Saturday morning.

The picture was reposted by the White House X account.

Francis Bergoglio, the Pope of the Catholic Church, died on April 21, 2025, after a protracted illness.

The conclave to elect a new Pope will commence on May 7.

Only cardinals under the age of 80 are eligible to vote, with 135 electors expected to participate from the over 252-cardinal pool.

Trump had recently jokingly told reporters that he would like to become the new head of the Catholic Church.

“I would like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice,” he said.

When asked if he has a favourite, Trump said he had “no preference,” adding that an

American cardinal from New York would be a strong contender for the role.
